Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia, is a not-for-profit, 116-bed modern medical facility dedicated to bringing quality health care to the residents of this region. JMH is the first “green” hospital in Southwest Virginia, offering a full array of medical services. Nestled within the rolling hills amidst a magnificent backdrop of Virginia’s mountains, the hospital’s contemporary architecture takes its design cues from an on-site cancer center. The healing power of natural light is infused throughout the patient-focused facility, while the vertical, five-story atrium in the main lobby creates a transparency. Connected to the 327,397-square-foot hospital is a 112,578-square-foot physicians’ office building. The sustainably designed and built facility has LEED Gold certification.
